From the M6 Motorway

Leave the M6 at junction 36 then turn onto the A590 to Barrow-in-Furness. Stay on this road for about 15 miles through Newby Bridge. At the Greenodd roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A5092 Whitehaven and Workington road. Follow this road for 6 miles to Grizebeck.

Beckstones Farmhouse, Beckstones Cottage and Old Beckstones

On the A5092 about 5 miles from Greenodd, you will drive up a long, steep hill. As you pass the top of the hill, you will see the junction for Burlington Slate Quarry on your left. Continue down the main road for another 600 yards. You will see a gradient sign that reads ‘8% Steep Hill’ on the right hand side. Shortly after this sign there is a right hand turn which is the entrance to Beckstones Farm. Turn right here and continue down the track. At the bottom of the hill, the first cottage on the left is Beckstones Farmhouse, the second cottage on the left is Old Beckstones and take the steep right hand fork for Beckstones Cottage.

Keeper’s Cottage and The Cart House

On the A5092 about 5 miles from Greenodd, you will drive up a long, steep hill. As you pass the top of the hill, you will see the junction for Burlington Slate Quarry on your left. Continue down the long hill to Grizebeck village. As you approach the bottom of the hill, slow down and prepare to turn right. At the bottom of the hill, you will see a sign for ‘Woodland’ on the right hand side. Turn right here, and then IMMEDIATELY turn right again onto a small tarmac lane. Continue on the lane for about half a mile. At the top of the lane you will come to some buildings. Ashlack Hall is on the right. For Keeper’s Cottage and the Cart House, continue up the track at the ‘crossroads’  take the second right. Keeper’s Cottage is the first on the right and the Cart House is straight ahead.

 

Ashlack and Beckstones are around 30 minutes from junction 36 of the M6. If you have problems or get lost, please ring us on 01229 889108.

 

By Rail

The nearest station is Ulverston, but to get there you may have to change trains at Preston or Lancaster. The nearest mainline station is Oxenholme, just outside Kendal and the train service is very good either from Manchester or London Euston.

From Kendal, you can get a bus to Ulverston, or its a 40 minutes drive by Taxi.

From Ulverston, a taxi will take around 10 minutes to Ashlack or Beckstones.
